A collection of custom products was created to blend the historical richness of the museum’s vintage scientific bird illustrations from their archives with a contemporary aesthetic designed to appeal to visitors and drive sales. The process involved reviewing nearly 200 archival images, carefully selecting and preparing the artwork, and then transforming them by interweaving and layering illustrations to create entirely new compositions.

Below are the vintage scientific prints from the museum’s archives that were used to create the custom product shown above, as well as the special boxed set sold exclusively in the museum gift shop alongside the collection.

The museum’s gift shop buyers requested a custom collection combining vintage illustrations from the museum's archives with contemporary blue and green patterns that coordinated with market products they had already ordered from vendors. An owl and a pufferfish from the archives were adapted and integrated into custom patterns created for the product collection.
